If you've moved to the Fort Monmouth area mid-treatment and need an orthodontist to take over your Invisalign case, that's something MHR Orthodontics handles regularly. The same is true if you've been quoted Invisalign somewhere else and want a board-certified second opinion before committing, or if you're starting from scratch. This page covers each scenario.

MHR Orthodontics is run by Dr. Martin Rabinovich, a board-certified orthodontist with a Doctor of Dental Medicine from Rutgers and a three-year Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics residency at the University of Colorado. The practice is orthodontics-only. Complimentary consultations available, no obligation.

Transferring an Invisalign Case from Another Provider

Patients move. Invisalign cases don't always move with the provider who started them. If you've relocated to Fort Monmouth in the middle of active Invisalign treatment, you have three practical options: travel back to your original provider for visits (rarely realistic), let treatment lapse and start over later (expensive and bad for outcomes), or transfer the case to a local provider. Transferring is usually the right answer.

How Treatment Transfer Works

Your original provider sends us your treatment records — typically the original ClinCheck plan from Invisalign, your most recent intraoral scans, photos, and X-rays. Dr. Rabinovich reviews the existing plan, examines you in person, and gives you a clear assessment of where the case stands, what remains, and whether the original plan is on track or needs adjustment.

In most cases, treatment continues on the existing plan with us providing the in-person supervision, attachment maintenance, and aligner handoffs. Sometimes the case needs a refinement scan to get a fresh ClinCheck for the remaining movement. Either way, you finish the case in our care rather than starting over.

What to Bring to Your Transfer Consultation

  • Your remaining Invisalign aligners (any unworn trays from the original prescription)
  • A copy of your original treatment plan or ClinCheck, if your previous provider gave you one
  • The contact information for your previous orthodontist (we can request records directly)
  • A list of any attachments, IPR, or refinements that were done
  • Recent dental work history — crowns, implants, periodontal treatment, etc.

Mid-Treatment Transfer vs. Refinement-Only Transfer

Two scenarios behave differently:

Mid-treatment transfer: you have aligners remaining in the original prescription. We typically continue the existing plan with the remaining aligners, then refine at the end. The transfer fee is lower because most of the planning and aligner cost was already paid to the previous provider.

Refinement-only transfer: you've finished the original prescription but the result needs a final correction. We take a new scan, run a fresh ClinCheck, and order refinement aligners. The fee structure here reflects the cost of new aligners and the planning work. [VERIFY: Confirm transfer fee structure — mid-treatment vs refinement-only.]

Getting a Second Opinion on an Invisalign Quote

If another practice has quoted you Invisalign and you're not sure whether the plan, the fee, or both are right, a second-opinion consultation is reasonable. We do these regularly and don't pressure patients to switch — sometimes the original quote is appropriate and our recommendation is to proceed with the original provider. Sometimes the original quote isn't appropriate, and we explain why.

When a Second Opinion Is Worth Getting

  • The quoted fee feels significantly higher or lower than other quotes you've gotten
  • The provider isn't an orthodontic specialist (board-certified or AAO member)
  • The treatment plan involves significant work like extractions, jaw surgery referrals, or extensive IPR
  • You've been told you're not a candidate for Invisalign and want to confirm
  • You're considering direct-to-consumer mail-order aligners as a cheaper alternative
  • The provider hasn't been clear about what's included (refinements, retainers, replacement aligners)

What We Look at During a Second-Opinion Consultation

A second-opinion consultation includes everything a regular consultation includes: a full exam, a digital intraoral scan, and a discussion of your goals. We then look specifically at the other plan: whether the proposed tooth movements are appropriate for your case, whether the treatment time is realistic, whether the fee includes the right things, and whether Invisalign specifically is the best treatment option (sometimes another approach like LightForce, InBrace, or traditional braces would produce a better result).

You leave with a clear comparison and an honest recommendation. If the original plan is sound, we tell you so. If we'd do something different, we explain what and why, and quote our own fee separately so you can compare directly.

Starting Invisalign Treatment from Scratch

If you're new to Invisalign and just searching from Fort Monmouth, the consultation flow is the same as for any new patient: exam, digital scan, treatment plan preview, and a clear quote. The same standards apply: Dr. Rabinovich personally examines every patient and oversees every plan. Treatment fees include all aligners, all visits, refinements at the end, and retainers when treatment finishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will you finish my Invisalign case at the same fee my previous provider quoted?

No — the fee resets based on what remains. If you have substantial aligners left from the original prescription, the transfer fee is typically lower than starting from scratch because the original planning and aligner manufacture were already paid to your previous provider. If most of the case is already complete and only refinements remain, the fee is lower again. Exact fees are quoted at the consultation.

Do I have to get my original provider's permission to transfer my case?

No, but it's a courtesy to let them know. They will need to release your treatment records when we request them, and the process is much smoother when there's no ill will involved. We can handle the records request on your behalf if you prefer.

What if I had Invisalign somewhere else years ago and my teeth have shifted back?

That's a relapse case, not a transfer. Treatment is essentially a fresh case using a new scan and new aligners. Cases where teeth have shifted years after prior treatment are common and typically run shorter than a first-time case because the movement needed is usually smaller.

Can you give me a second opinion if I haven't started treatment yet?

Yes. A second-opinion consultation is structured exactly like a regular consultation: full exam, digital scan, plan preview, and quote. The difference is that we also review the other practice's plan and quote, point by point, so you can make an informed decision. No commitment to switch — sometimes our recommendation is to proceed with the original provider.

How long do most Invisalign transfer cases take to complete?

Depends on how much treatment remains. Cases transferring with most of the prescription completed often finish in 3 to 6 months. Cases transferring early can run another 9 to 12 months. Specific estimates come at the consultation after we've reviewed your records.
