Dr. Martin Rabinovich grew up in Marlboro. He went to school here, his family is here, and after years of training in New Brunswick and Denver, he came back to Monmouth County to practice. If you live in Marlboro and you are weighing orthodontic options for yourself or your child, that local connection is worth knowing about. So is the rest of what is on this page: the full range of braces and aligner options, how to get to our Shrewsbury office, and what a first consultation looks like.

A Marlboro-Raised Orthodontist Treating Marlboro Families

Dr. Rabinovich was born and raised in Marlboro. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, then his Doctor of Dental Medicine at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He completed his orthodontic and dentofacial orthopedics residency at the University of Colorado, where he also earned a Master of Science in Dentistry. His residency included extensive work with cleft lip and palate patients through Children's Hospital Colorado, which built sharper-than-average judgment for growth and airway issues in pediatric cases.

He is board certified. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the New Jersey Dental Association, and the Monmouth-Ocean County Dental Society. During his residency, he represented the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists on the AAO Council on New and Younger Members.

The Marlboro upbringing is not just a personal note. It means that when Dr. Rabinovich talks to a Marlboro family about driving schedules, school calendars, or the layout of the township, he is speaking from personal experience rather than from a Google Maps lookup.

Why Marlboro Families Drive East for Braces

Marlboro is about 18 to 22 minutes from our Shrewsbury office, depending on the route. That is the longest drive in our regular service area, so the honest question is: why would a Marlboro family pass closer orthodontists to come here?

Three reasons come up most often in conversations with our Marlboro patients.

First, board certification is meaningful. Any licensed dentist can technically offer braces. A board-certified orthodontist has completed dental school plus a two to three year full-time orthodontic residency, and has voluntarily put completed cases in front of a peer board for review. Roughly one in three practicing orthodontists is board certified. The credential reflects extra training and an external quality check.

Second, the full service range matters when planning treatment. Some patients are great candidates for traditional metal braces. Others are better served by clear aligners, custom 3D printed braces, or lingual braces placed behind the teeth. A practice that offers one or two options will recommend one of those options. We carry the full menu, so the recommendation is driven by your case, not by what is in stock.

Third, an orthodontist who grew up locally tends to stick around. Dr. Rabinovich came back to practice in the area where he grew up. That is a different kind of commitment than a practitioner who could relocate at any point. For a treatment plan that may span 18 to 36 months, continuity matters.

Braces and Aligner Options for Marlboro Patients

Traditional Metal Braces

Stainless steel brackets and archwires. Modern brackets are about half the size of older designs. Still the most flexible option for complex cases and the most common choice for school-age children.

Clear Ceramic Braces

Same hardware as metal braces but tooth-colored. Popular with teens at Marlboro High School and Marlboro Memorial Middle School who do not want metal in their school photos, and with adults who want a more subtle look.

LightForce 3D Printed Braces

Custom 3D printed clear brackets shaped to each tooth. Clear, low-profile, and more precise than off-the-shelf brackets because the bracket geometry is designed for the specific tooth it sits on.

InBrace Lingual Braces

Hardware placed on the tongue side of your teeth, completely invisible from the front. A smart wire guides teeth between visits, so adjustments are infrequent and short. Common request from adults in professional roles.

Invisalign and Spark Clear Aligners

Removable transparent trays that you swap every one to two weeks. Best for mild to moderate cases. Aligners need to be in your mouth about 22 hours a day to work. We carry both Invisalign and Spark.

Driving to Our Office from Marlboro

Two routes work well from Marlboro, depending on which side of the township you live on.

From the east side of Marlboro (Route 9 corridor, Robertsville, near Big Joe Henry Hudson Trail): Take Route 9 south to Route 18 south. Continue on Route 18 to Route 35 south into Shrewsbury. Turn left on White Road. Drive time: 18 to 20 minutes off peak.

From the west side of Marlboro (closer to Englishtown, Manalapan): Take Route 79 east to Route 18 south, then the same continuation as above. Drive time: 20 to 22 minutes.

Both routes are direct highway driving, not back roads. Traffic during morning and evening commute windows adds 5 to 10 minutes. The office has its own parking lot, so door-to-chair time is short once you arrive.

Insurance, Financing, and the Real Cost of Braces

Braces costs depend on case complexity, treatment type, and length. Rather than quote a range that may not match your case, we run a benefits check on your insurance before the consultation. You walk into the conversation with your real out-of-pocket already calculated, not a national average.

At the consultation, we quote a fixed total. The treatment fee is locked in — no surprise add-ons during treatment, no charges for adjustment visits, no extra invoices for retainers at the end. For the portion not covered by insurance, we offer no-interest monthly payment plans through the office. No credit application required for the in-house plan.

Frequently Asked Questions About Braces in Marlboro

How long is the drive from Marlboro?

Most Marlboro addresses are 18 to 22 minutes from our office. From the east side of Marlboro near Route 9, take Route 9 south to Route 18 south to Route 35 south, then left on White Road. From the west side closer to Manalapan, take Route 79 east to Route 18 south. Both routes are direct highway driving. The office has its own parking lot.

Did Dr. Rabinovich really grow up in Marlboro?

Yes. He was born and raised in Marlboro before going to Rutgers University in New Brunswick for his undergraduate degree, then Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, then the University of Colorado for his orthodontic residency. After completing residency, he came back to Monmouth County to practice. The Marlboro upbringing is part of why patients from across the township make the drive east.

What's the difference between Invisalign and Spark?

Both are clear aligner systems made by different manufacturers (Align Technology makes Invisalign; Ormco makes Spark). Both work the same way: you wear each tray for one to two weeks, then move to the next in the series. The differences are in the tray material, the attachment design, and how the trays handle certain types of tooth movement. Spark trays are slightly more transparent than Invisalign trays and tend to stain less. Invisalign has a longer track record and a larger library of treatment outcomes the manufacturer can reference when planning your case. For most patients, either system would deliver similar results; we recommend the one that fits the specifics of your case best. At the consultation, we explain which is the better match and why.

Can I switch from braces to aligners during treatment?

In some cases, yes. The decision depends on how much of the treatment plan has been completed and which movements remain. If you start with traditional braces for the heavy lifting (closing large gaps, correcting bite) and then switch to aligners for the final cosmetic refinement, that is a common combination. Switching the other direction (starting in aligners and moving to braces) usually happens because the aligner case turned out to be more complex than initially estimated. Either way, the change is something we plan together rather than a surprise. There is sometimes an additional cost for the second appliance set, depending on what was included in the original treatment fee.

Are retainers included in the cost of braces?

Yes. The first set of retainers is included in the treatment fee. We make a clear set and a wire set (or two sets of clear retainers, depending on the case) at the end of treatment. After that, replacement retainers (for ones that are lost, broken, or worn out) are available at a separate cost. Patients who keep wearing their retainers as instructed almost never lose their results. Patients who stop wearing retainers usually see noticeable shifting within a few years.
